Undoubtedly, the Yamaha TMax is a motorcycle that has set the benchmark in the maxi scooter segment.
When introduced for the first time in 2001, the Yamaha TMax was the largest scooter ever produced with a 500cc engine capacity before the latest generation introduced last year saw the TMax now powered by a 560cc platform.
Due to the popularity of the TMax, the world’s motorcycle manufacturers also started producing large-capacity scooters including the Honda X-ADV/Forza 750, Suzuki Burgman 400, Aprilia SRV 850 and SYM Maxsym TL500.
Now, the segment will be enlivened with another 500cc maxi scooter through the Zontes ZT500.
However, while most scooters above 500cc are powered by a two-cylinder engine, the Zontes ZT500 is powered by a single-cylinder engine. Even so, the scooter is still capable of producing high power with 46hp and 53Nm, only 1.6hp and 2.7Nm less than the TMax 560.
Though with one cylinder, the ZT500’s level of vibration is definitely felt more than the TMax.
Meanwhile, Zontes also claims that the ZT500 can record a maximum speed of around 160km/h. However, we feel that at such a speed, the vibrations produced must be noticeable.
The Zontes ZT500 comes with a modern and ‘sporty’ design similar to the Zontes ZT350E. At the same time, the ZT500 also comes with premium equipment including J.Juan brake callipers, dual-channel ABS, and 15-inch front and rear rims paired with 120/70 front and 160/60 rear tires.
