Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. has officially announced the signing of a new three-year agreement with MotoGP icon Andrea Dovizioso. Under the terms of the deal, Dovizioso will serve dual roles as Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP’s official Test Rider and Rider Performance Advisor through the 2027 season.

The Italian rider, a revered name in the MotoGP paddock and a future Hall of Famer, will be central to Yamaha’s renewed development efforts as the factory team looks to return to the front of the grid. Dovizioso’s extensive racing experience, coupled with his renowned ability to provide detailed technical feedback, makes him an ideal candidate to help shape the next generation of Yamaha’s premier-class machine.

As Test Rider, Dovizioso will take part in private testing sessions outside the regular Grand Prix calendar. His responsibilities will include supporting prototype development and evaluating new components alongside Yamaha’s technical team.

In the newly created Rider Performance Advisor role, Dovizioso will also act as a communication bridge between Yamaha’s four MotoGP riders and their respective engineers. The role is designed to strengthen synergy within the team, improve data analysis, and ensure that rider feedback is efficiently translated into technical progress.

Paolo Pavesio, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing, expressed confidence in the expanded partnership:  “Andrea and Yamaha have shared a strong partnership for many years now, and we are delighted to announce that he is staying with Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP for three more.

Dovi is not only a MotoGP legend with superb riding skills, but he also possesses technical knowledge and can effectively give feedback to the engineers. This makes him an ideal test rider, for sure, but we saw the opportunity to make further use of his talents.

We’re also excited to see him take on the new role of Rider Performance Advisor, which will allow Yamaha to successfully gather crucial data and efficiently share insights between all four Yamaha MotoGP riders and the engineers.”

Dovizioso, who previously rode for Yamaha during various stages of his MotoGP career and contributed to testing programs after retirement, shared his excitement about the new chapter.

“I’m really happy to officially announce this new connection with Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. I know it represents an important step in a relationship built on mutual trust and respect.

I feel completely comfortable in the role we’ve defined together with Yamaha, aimed at maximizing my contribution to this important project.

My goal will be to create strong synergy between riders, team, and crew, drawing on my experience both on track and inside the garage.

We’re well aware that this journey will be shaped by many small details that need attention, but we also have a clear vision of the result we want to achieve.”

The move comes at a crucial moment for Yamaha as it intensifies efforts to return to competitive form in MotoGP. With Dovizioso’s expertise now playing a bigger role across both technical and performance-related aspects of the team, Yamaha fans will be watching closely to see how this new chapter unfolds.
