The British motorcycle racing community is mourning the loss of two riders, Owen Jenner, 21, and Shane Richardson, 29, who were fatally injured during a multi-rider crash in the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship race at Oulton Park on Sunday.

The tragic incident occurred on the first lap of the race, as the riders exited Turn 1 at Old Hall Corner, triggering what Motorsport Vision Racing (MSVR) described as a “major chain reaction” involving 11 riders.

The race was immediately red-flagged, and medical services were deployed trackside. However, due to the severity of the accident, the entire Bennetts British Superbike Championship (BSB) event was later cancelled, with series director Stuart Higgs calling the crash “severe and catastrophic.”

In an official statement released Monday night, MSVR confirmed that Tom Tunstall, 47, was also involved in the incident and sustained significant injuries.

“This catastrophic accident has tragically resulted in two riders being fatally injured, and another sustaining significant injuries,” the statement read.

“The Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board and MSVR are investigating the full circumstances of the incident in conjunction with the Coroner and Cheshire Constabulary.”

Richardson, originally from New Zealand, raced for the Astro-JJR Hippo Suzuki team, while Jenner, a rising British talent, competed for Rapid Honda.

The British Supersport Championship serves as a key support class to the premier British Superbike Championship and has long been a proving ground for future stars of the sport.

The deaths of Jenner and Richardson have sent shockwaves through the racing community, with tributes pouring in for both riders, described by teams and peers as talented, passionate, and deeply respected competitors.
