Italika, the dominant force in the Mexican motorcycle industry, has once again set a new benchmark for success. For the 20th year in a row, the company has recorded unprecedented sales growth, cementing its status as a major player in the global motorcycle market.

Record-Breaking Registrations in 2024

In 2024, Italika achieved an all-time high in motorcycle registrations, reaching 1.3 million units—an impressive 36.2% increase compared to the previous year. While Mexico continues to be the brand’s stronghold, Italika has also made significant inroads into other Latin American markets. Guatemala saw a 7.7% increase in registrations, while Honduras experienced a 14.3% growth, further solidifying Italika’s presence in the region.

This growth has propelled Italika to become the 8th largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world, moving up two positions from the previous year.

Understanding Sales vs. Registrations

According to McD, which tracks vehicle registrations in over 90 countries, there is often a distinction between “sales” and “registrations.” While manufacturers report sales based on invoiced vehicles, McD’s data is based on actual registrations, reflecting real-world usage trends. Italika’s continued dominance in registrations highlights strong consumer demand and a loyal customer base.

Strategic Investments to Sustain Growth

To support its expanding operations and meet the increasing demand, Grupo Salinas has invested MX$500 million (US$27.6 million) in a new motorcycle assembly plant—Ensamblika Guadalajara—located in El Salto, Jalisco. This facility marks a significant step in Italika’s growth strategy. It complements its existing plant in Toluca, which has been in operation for two decades.

Spanning 71,000 square meters, the Ensamblika Guadalajara plant is equipped with two advanced production lines and has an annual assembly capacity of 500,000 motorcycles. The facility will produce 31 different Italika models and cater to 16 states across Mexico. Its proximity to the Port of Manzanillo ensures improved logistics and faster delivery times.

This new facility will also assemble motorcycles for Hero and Benelli, further diversifying Italika’s portfolio and enhancing its competitive edge.

A Bright Future Ahead

With two decades of continuous growth, Italika has solidified itself as a market leader, not only in Mexico but across Latin America. The company’s aggressive expansion, combined with strategic investments and a robust distribution network. This positions it for even greater success in the years ahead. As demand for affordable, reliable motorcycles continues to rise, Italika is well-poised to maintain its trajectory as one of the world’s top motorcycle manufacturers.

With its unwavering commitment to innovation and quality, Italika remains a force to be reckoned with in the global motorcycle industry. The next few years will be critical in determining whether it can maintain this extraordinary growth streak. However, for now, the brand stands as an undeniable success story in the world of two-wheelers.
