The Kelantan Road Transport Department (JPJ) has cautioned Yamaha RXZ enthusiasts against purchasing smuggled motorcycles, warning that such actions could lead to serious legal consequences.

Kelantan JPJ director, Mohd Misuari Abdullah, urged buyers to ensure they acquire the iconic motorcycle through legal channels to avoid enforcement action.

“If you want to own this legendary motorcycle, you have to go through the right channels and not smuggle it. I think it’s a waste of time because the fun is only for a moment,” he said at a press conference during the Closing Ceremony of the Chinese New Year Special Operation held at JPJ Bukit Jawa, Kelantan on Sunday night.

According to Mohd Misuari, common offences involving smuggled Yamaha RXZ motorcycles include misuse of the Motor Vehicle License (LKM) and the operation of unregistered vehicles. While the smuggling of these motorcycles falls under the jurisdiction of the Customs Department, JPJ is responsible for enforcing vehicle registration and licensing laws.

JPJ is also collaborating with the General Operations Force to crack down on the use of smuggled motorcycles in Kelantan.

Mohd Misuari also shared that during the 21-day Chinese New Year Special Operation, Kelantan JPJ inspected 16,577 vehicles, resulting in 6,434 summons notices issued and action taken against 3,457 vehicles.

A total of 5,158 JPJ(P) 22 summons notices were issued, while 26 vehicles were seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Additionally, five lorries were seized under Section 80(1) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010.

Among the seized vehicles were 23 motorcycles, two cars, and one four-wheel-drive vehicle. Common offences included illegal modifications to exhausts, tyres, and swing arms, which pose risks to both riders and other road users.
