Benelli is speculated to be developing a 400cc parallel-twin engine to replace the existing 300cc platform. The matter was revealed through the latest patent document filed in China which also featured a Benelli BJ400J machine.
The BJ400J is a ‘touring’ type motorcycle that will be officiated by the police in the country to replace the 300cc machine which features the same design and has been used since 2018.
This is because, in China, the police machinery always gets an upgraded version first before being introduced to the public.
Interestingly, Benelli is also rumoured to be replacing all existing 300cc platforms including the 302S and 302R models with the latest 400cc engine.
Benelli enlarged the bore and stroke to 70mm x 52mm while trying to produce the latest pulse capable of generating around 45hp.
Meanwhile, increasing the engine from 300cc to 400cc also allows other components to be retained including the frame, suspension, rims and brakes.
The same engine has also been unveiled by Qianjiang’s parent company through the QJMotor 400RR before.
This latest move also opens up a wider market for Benelli which will place the latest 400cc machine among other Kawasaki Z400 brands.
In the same development, the document also revealed that the Benelli BJ400J offers premium components including Brembo brakes, disc brakes and USD forks.
