On Sunday, the police conducted an “Ops Khas Motosikal” (Motorcycle Special Operation) and detained 200 individuals including several teenagers.

According to Astro Awani, Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), chief Assistant Commissioner Sarifuddin Mohd Salleh stated that the operation began at midnight. This was to target hooligan behaviour on the road and any illegally modified motorcycles.

The operation occured on Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur. The aim of it was also to focus on intoxicated drivers and any who may participate in illegal street races.

“Apart from the motorcycle operation, we also conducted this operation to detect drunk drivers in Kuala Lumpur.”

“During the operation, we found that there were individuals who rode motorcycles recklessly and dangerously, namely illegal racing.”

“We will be continuing this operation into Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) as we know traffic density in the city centre will increase,” said Asst Commissioner Sarifuddin.

The police issued 300 summons for various offences during the operation. Such included noisy exhausts and offences under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

All of those that were detained were brought to the IPK KL urine tests and background checks.
