Honda has reached a new milestone in design, with the Honda WN7 electric motorcycle taking home the Gold Award at the iF DESIGN AWARD 2026. It’s a notable achievement, not just because the award is one of the most respected in the design world, but also because this is the first time Honda has secured the top honor in the competition.
The WN7 represents Honda’s growing push into electric mobility, particularly in the “fun” riding category. Built around the concept of “Be the Wind,” the bike aims to blend performance, freedom, and sustainability into one cohesive package.
A Fresh Take on Electric Design
One of the standout elements of the WN7 is its engineering approach. Instead of a traditional frame, Honda uses a frameless structure where the battery itself acts as a core part of the bike’s body. This not only reduces weight but also gives designers more flexibility to shape the motorcycle in a cleaner, more integrated way.
Visually, the WN7 leans into a balance of modern and familiar. It carries a muscular, naked-bike stance while incorporating smooth, rider-focused surfaces. The horizontal-bar headlight adds a distinctive signature, while the black-and-gold color scheme gives it a premium, almost futuristic edge.
Performance That Matches the Look
The WN7 isn’t just about aesthetics. Its electric motor produces up to 50 kW, putting it in line with a 600cc internal combustion engine in terms of power. Torque figures are even more impressive, reaching 100 Nm, closer to what you’d expect from a liter-class bike.
That combination translates into strong acceleration for city riding, along with enough capability for more relaxed highway cruising. In short, it’s designed to feel exciting without being overwhelming.
Recognition Beyond Styling
According to the iF jury, the WN7 stood out for how naturally it blends Honda’s traditional motorcycle DNA with a modern electric identity. Rather than feeling like a departure, the design comes across as a natural evolution, something that respects the past while clearly looking ahead.
Honda’s design leadership echoed that sentiment, highlighting the award as recognition of a new kind of riding experience, one that aligns with the shift toward electrification while still delivering the emotional appeal riders expect.
A Glimpse Into Honda’s Electric Future
The WN7 is more than just a concept or a design exercise, it’s a signal of where Honda is heading. As the company works toward carbon neutrality, models like this show how performance, design, and sustainability can come together without compromise.
Winning the top prize at the iF DESIGN AWARD suggests that Honda isn’t just keeping up with the electric transition, it’s aiming to help define it.
