BMW Motorrad is having one of those rare, standout years where everything seems to fall perfectly into place. At the 2026 “Motorcycle of the Year” readers’ choice awards organised by MOTORRAD magazine, the brand delivered its strongest performance yet, taking home an impressive total of ten awards, including seven category wins. It’s not just a win on paper. It’s a clear sign that riders themselves are backing BMW’s current lineup in a big way.
A lot of the spotlight naturally falls on BMW’s high-performance M models, which continue to dominate their respective segments. The BMW M 1000 RR, for example, remains the undisputed favourite in the sportbike category, marking its sixth consecutive win. That kind of consistency is rare in such a competitive space, and it says a lot about how well the bike balances raw performance with everyday rideability. Its naked sibling, the BMW M 1000 R, also held onto the top spot in the Power Nakeds category, delivering superbike-level performance in a more aggressive, stripped-down form.
Then there’s the BMW M 1000 XR, which continues to blur the lines between sport and touring. For the third year running, it leads the crossover category, proving that riders are increasingly drawn to bikes that can handle long distances just as well as they can deliver high-speed thrills. It’s a reflection of how modern motorcycling is evolving, versatility matters more than ever.
Of course, no BMW Motorrad success story is complete without mentioning the GS lineup. The BMW R 1300 GS once again secured top honours in the Adventure Touring category, further cementing its status as a benchmark in the segment. Its reputation isn’t just built on branding. It’s backed by real-world capability, whether on highways or off-road terrain. Alongside it, the BMW F 900 GS continued its winning streak in the Enduro/Supermoto category, showing that BMW’s off-road credentials are just as strong as its road-focused machines.
On the touring side, the BMW R 1300 RS carried forward the success of its predecessor by taking the top spot in the Tourer/Sports Tourer segment. It strikes that difficult balance between comfort and sportiness, making it a favourite for riders who want a bike that can handle both daily riding and long-distance travel without compromise.
One of the more notable highlights this year is the rise of the BMW F 450 GS, which claimed first place in the entry-level category. Designed for A2 licence holders, it brings the GS experience to a newer generation of riders without feeling like a watered-down version. Its success suggests that BMW is not only maintaining its dominance at the top end but is also building a strong foundation for future riders entering the brand.
Beyond the wins themselves, what stands out is how consistent BMW Motorrad has been across multiple segments. From high-performance machines to accessible entry-level bikes, the brand isn’t relying on a single standout model. Instead, it’s delivering across the board. Since these awards are based on reader votes, they carry a certain weight. They reflect what riders actually want, not just what looks good on a spec sheet.
All in all, BMW Motorrad’s performance this year feels less like a one-off achievement and more like a statement. The brand isn’t just keeping up with the competition. It’s shaping where the market is heading.
