Thai Honda has officially launched its first electric motorcycle, the UC3, marking a significant step in the company’s electrification strategy and positioning Thailand as a key base for future electric two-wheeler production and exports.
Unlike previous models adapted from overseas platforms, a Thai engineer designed the UC3 locally. Thai Honda will produce the motorcycle at its domestic manufacturing facility and plans to begin exporting it to Vietnam later this year, making Southeast Asia the first market for its regional electric expansion.
With a price tag of 132,000 baht, the UC3 is more for urban commuters. It offers a claimed range of 122 kilometres per charge. Rather than targeting the premium segment, Thai Honda is positioning the model as an accessible, practical electric option for everyday use.
Thailand’s EV3.5 incentive scheme supports the launch by offering subsidies and tax benefits for electric motorcycles priced under 150,000 baht and manufactured locally. Thai Honda has secured approval to participate in the programme, helping keep prices competitive while encouraging domestic production.
To address infrastructure challenges, the company plans to expand charging facilities nationwide, increasing the number of charging points to 460 locations across 230 areas this year through partnerships with major retail groups such as Tesco Lotus and Central Group. The investment in charging services at around 100 million baht.
Thai Honda is also studying the feasibility of establishing a motorcycle battery recycling facility in Thailand as part of Honda’s global circular economy strategy, aimed at managing battery waste and securing long-term sustainability.
Although Thailand remains one of the world’s largest motorcycle markets, economic headwinds and high household debt have slowed growth. Against this backdrop, Thai Honda sees electrification not only as a response to regulation but as a way to future-proof its business and strengthen Thailand’s role in Honda’s global electric mobility plans.
