Eli Tomac and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing continued their perfect start to the 2026 AMA Supercross season with a hard-fought victory at Round 2 in San Diego, backing up their opening-round win and strengthening their early grip on the 450SX championship lead.

Under the lights of Snapdragon Stadium, Tomac immediately signalled his intent by topping combined qualifying aboard his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, looking composed and confident throughout the afternoon sessions. The Colorado native carried that momentum into his Heat Race, where a strong start and controlled ride secured him second place and a prime gate pick for the Main Event.

When the gates dropped for the 20-lap final, Tomac slotted into third through the first rhythm section and settled into a tactical race. Rather than forcing the issue early, the two-time champion bided his time as Hunter Lawrence and Ken Roczen engaged in their own duel at the front. With six minutes left on the clock, Tomac made his decisive move for the lead and withstood late pressure to claim his second win of the season and the 55th of his Supercross career.

Reflecting on the race, Tomac acknowledged the intense battle at the front but expressed satisfaction with both his performance and his connection with the KTM machine. The back-to-back wins mark an ideal start to the campaign for the #3 rider.

Teammate Aaron Plessinger showed resilience in San Diego despite battling illness throughout the week. After finishing third in his Heat Race behind Tomac, “The Cowboy” ran inside the top five for much of the Main Event before ultimately crossing the line in seventh. While a late delay behind a lapped rider cost him a few positions, Plessinger remained upbeat, emphasizing his focus on recovery ahead of the next round in Anaheim.

Jorge Prado’s second outing in the Red Bull KTM Factory 450SX program delivered mixed results but promising speed. The former MXGP World Champion impressed in qualifying with the second-fastest time and followed that up by grabbing the holeshot in Heat 1 on his way to second place. However, a weaker start in the Main Event left him fighting through traffic, and he eventually finished 13th as he continues adapting to the unique demands of AMA Supercross.

With two rounds complete, Tomac leads the championship on maximum points, holding an eight-point buffer over Ken Roczen, with Hunter Lawrence close behind in third. The series now heads to Angel Stadium in Anaheim for Round 3 on January 24.
