Since its debut in 2018, the Thai Grand Prix has quickly evolved into one of MotoGP’s most iconic stops. Renowned for its packed grandstands, passionate fans, and dramatic final-corner showdowns. With this latest extension, MotoGP reinforces its long-term commitment to Southeast Asia. It is a region that has become both a vital fanbase and a growth frontier for the sport.

“MotoGP’s growth trajectory continues, and Southeast Asia remains at the heart of that story,” says Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports. “Since we first went to Buriram, the Thai GP has become an impressive and essential event. The fans are incredible, the racing is spectacular, and the atmosphere is unmatched. We’re delighted to continue working with the Sports Authority of Thailand to bring this world-class event to even greater heights.”

Economic and Cultural Impact

The extension reflects the Thai government’s strong commitment to sports-driven economic development. Dr. Gongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, highlighted the Grand Prix’s powerful role in stimulating the national economy and promoting Thailand’s global image.

“The Thai GP is more than just a race. It is a strategic tool that drives the economy through sport tourism,” Dr. Gongsak stated. “It generates tangible benefits across tourism, hotels, transport, and supply chains, showcasing Thailand’s strength as a global motorsport destination.”

He added that following Cabinet approval, the government’s five-year extension aligns with its broader vision to position Thailand as a regional motorsport hub. It aims to nurture local talent and leverage soft power to present Thai culture and identity to the world.

A Fan Experience Like No Other

The Chang International Circuit has built a reputation for hospitality, spectacle, and flawless event organisation. From its debut to hosting season-opening rounds, the Buriram race has consistently drawn record-breaking crowds and delivered some of MotoGP’s most memorable moments.

Thailand’s unique combination of cultural warmth and high-octane energy has made it a favourite among fans and riders alike. Each year, the event showcases world-class racing and Thailand’s ability to blend sport, culture, and celebration into an unforgettable weekend experience.

Looking Ahead

With five more Grands Prix secured beyond 2026, the Thai Grand Prix will continue to serve as a flagship event in MotoGP’s Asian expansion strategy. It is cementing Thailand’s place as a global motorsport powerhouse.
