Shoei has stepped confidently into the future of rider tech with a new helmet that features a fully integrated Head-Up Display built directly into the visor. The system, developed with French AR specialists EyeLights, brings real-time information into the rider’s natural line of sight. No glancing down, no split-second guesswork.

Information Where Riders Actually Look

The new GT-Air 3 Smart uses a nano-OLED projection unit that appears in the top corner of the visor, displaying navigation cues, speed readings, and smartphone alerts. With motorcycles increasingly dominated by touchscreen dashboards and dense menus, the ability to absorb information without leaving the road ahead is a major shift in rider safety and convenience.

Shoei and EyeLights designed the module to work intuitively, offering clear visuals even in bright conditions. The goal is simple: reduce unnecessary eye movement and give riders more time to react.

Sleek Integration, No Bolt-On Bulk

Rather than relying on aftermarket HUD kits, Shoei has fully embedded the entire system inside the shell. The helmet arrives with the display unit, battery pack, microphone, and Bluetooth speakers already installed, preserving the GT-Air 3’s aerodynamic profile and premium fit.

The communication system supports both online and mesh modes. It allows riders to talk in groups, control their phone hands-free, and interact with digital voice assistants. Paired with a companion app, the helmet delivers accurate GPS data, turn-by-turn directions, and message previews while the phone stays tucked safely away.

Smart Helmets Are Evolving Fast

The GT-Air 3 Smart joins a growing wave of advanced helmets that aim to enhance rider awareness. Several brands are developing lids with AI-driven alerts, built-in cameras, shell-integrity sensors, active noise cancellation, or expanded rear visibility. Shoei’s visor-mounted HUD takes a more refined approach, prioritising a streamlined experience that complements rather than overwhelms.

And because it’s a Shoei, the helmet still meets strict global safety standards, including DOT and ECE 22.06.

High Tech, High Price

Innovation doesn’t come cheap. The GT-Air 3 Smart is priced at US$1,199 (approx. RM5,155.70), making it significantly more expensive than conventional premium helmets. With most manufacturers recommending replacement every five years, riders will weigh the cost against the long-term benefit of added awareness and connectivity.

Still, Shoei’s latest creation marks a turning point. As AR and on-board tech continue to develop, helmets like this one may become the new benchmark, where protection, convenience, and digital intelligence merge seamlessly into everyday riding.
