As Metroid Prime 4: Beyond edges closer to release, Nintendo has begun pulling back the curtain on several new mechanics players can expect in Samus Aran’s long-awaited return. Among the most intriguing additions is her mysterious motorcycle, officially named Vi-O-La, which now takes centre stage thanks to Nintendo’s latest overview trailer.

A Relic From an Ancient Civilisation

Vi-O-La isn’t your standard sci-fi bike. According to Nintendo, the vehicle originates from an ancient alien civilization that once inhabited Viewros, the sprawling planet where Samus’ next mission unfolds. Discovered during her investigation, the bike becomes an essential tool for navigating Viewros’ massive open regions.

Traversal, Combat, and Exploration

Designed as a fast-moving transport, Vi-O-La allows players to cover long distances between zones far more efficiently than on foot. While riding, players will be able to:

  • Dash across wide environments
  • Collect scattered crystals and resources
  • Encounter enemies in the overworld
  • Engage in light combat scenarios while in motion

The bike’s introduction marks one of the boldest mechanical evolutions in the Metroid Prime series, adding pace and variety to exploration while maintaining the franchise’s atmospheric identity.

Instant Summoning When Allowed

One of Vi-O-La’s standout features is Samus’ ability to summon the bike instantly in approved areas. Rather than needing to backtrack to a specific point, players can call the vehicle to their location, cutting down on downtime and emphasising fluid traversal across Viewros.

Third-Person Riding, First-Person Action

When aboard Vi-O-La, the camera shifts into a third-person perspective, giving players a wide view of the terrain as they speed across the landscape. Once Samus dismounts, gameplay transitions seamlessly back to the traditional first-person viewpoint the Prime series is known for.

This hybrid perspective design ensures the bike feels natural without disrupting the core gameplay loop.

A Major Role in Samus’ New Journey

While Vi-O-La has appeared prominently in earlier trailers, fans were unsure of its true purpose until now. Nintendo confirms that the motorcycle is more than a flashy gimmick; it is a fully integrated traversal system that plays a central role in how players explore Viewros.

Though early previews did not include hands-on access to the bike, impressions from the first hour of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond suggest its eventual introduction will expand the series in fresh and exciting ways.

With release day drawing near, anticipation continues to build. For more impressions and footage, Nintendo encourages fans to check out the latest clips and hands-on previews available across gaming media.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is shaping up to be both a return to form and a bold step forward—and Vi-O-La is poised to be one of its most memorable innovations.
