The Yamaha Factory Racing Team continued its V4 development programme during the Grand Prix of Malaysia, completing a successful second full-length MotoGP race with its new V4-powered prototype. The team focused on gathering valuable dry-track data under real race conditions at the Sepang International Circuit.

Wild-card rider Augusto Fernández executed the team’s plan to run the 20-lap MotoGP race in full, pushing the prototype to its limits. The Spanish rider crossed the finish line in 18th position, completing another important milestone in Yamaha’s ongoing development of the V4 engine concept.

The goal of the Sepang race was not about chasing positions but about gathering as much performance data as possible. The team concentrated on analysing the bike’s balance, acceleration, and consistency throughout the race distance. The information collected will help Yamaha engineers refine the next evolution of the V4 prototype ahead of future tests and wildcard appearances.

“It was a busy weekend, and we have settled on a clear direction to take for the next test and wildcard race weekend in Valencia to improve further,” said Augusto Fernández, Yamaha Factory Racing Test Rider. “We have been working on the balance of the bike, and we need to keep developing it to set a strong base. The process will take a bit of time, so we need to keep working hard.”

The Yamaha Factory Racing Test Team will now evaluate the Sepang race data in preparation for its next outing in Valencia, where the V4 project will continue its development cycle. The insights gained from these wildcard race runs are a key part of Yamaha’s long-term MotoGP strategy as the brand works towards returning to the front of the grid.
