Albert Arenas and Darryn Binder wrapped up a crucial qualifying day under the intense Malaysian heat, with both riders optimistic yet realistic ahead of Sunday’s race at the Sepang International Circuit.
Albert Arenas: Ready to Fight at the Front
Spanish rider Albert Arenas (#75) delivered a strong performance, narrowly missing out on a front-row start. Finishing fourth by a slim margin, Arenas praised the team’s efforts in delivering a “really competitive package” ahead of what is expected to be a physically demanding race.
“A second, very positive day here in Malaysia: we fought for the front row and we finished fourth for a very small margin,” said Arenas. “We’re in a good starting position for tomorrow’s race: it’ll be a long and tough one, but we’ve worked very well to arrive at a really competitive package. Now we’ll work some more this afternoon in order to be ready to battle for the podium: we want to enjoy tomorrow!”
Arenas’s consistent pace throughout the sessions has positioned him as a strong contender for the podium, with his focus now shifting toward fine-tuning race setup and tyre strategy to handle Sepang’s relentless conditions.
Darryn Binder: Eyes on a Strong Comeback
Teammate Darryn Binder (#15) expressed mixed emotions after qualifying, admitting some disappointment in not achieving the grid position he had targeted. Despite showing promising pace earlier in the day, the South African rider struggled to extract the maximum from his package during Q1.
“I’m a little bit disappointed in my qualifying: this morning we made a decent enough lap and I was hoping to improve from there in Q1, but I just never managed to get everything out of it and we’ll be paying it in the grid position tomorrow,” Binder shared. “It’s going to be a long and hot race so we’ll now stay focused on what we can improve for tomorrow and go out there in the race to do our best!”
Binder remains determined to make up ground when the lights go out, knowing that Sepang’s unpredictable conditions could offer opportunities to climb the order through consistency and resilience.
Looking Ahead
With both Arenas and Binder aiming to convert their pace into strong race results, the team approaches Sunday’s challenge with cautious optimism. The sweltering Malaysian heat will test tyre management, endurance, and strategy: key factors that could decide who stands on the podium at the end of the day.
