Everyone has a story about how they fell in love with motorcycles, and for me, that story begins not with bikes, but with cars.
Ever since I was little, everything in my life revolved around cars. From my bedsheets and toys to my clothes and books, everything had four wheels printed on it. While most kids were watching cartoons or flipping through comic books, I was glued to car documentaries and reading car magazines, even if I didn’t fully understand what I was reading. All I knew was that cars looked incredibly cool, and I wanted to know everything about them.
As I grew older, that fascination turned into passion. I memorised car specs, studied how engines worked, and spent hours learning about the fundamentals of driving and maintenance. Now that I own my own car, I enjoy getting hands-on, understanding what makes a machine move and how every part contributes to its performance. But deep down, I knew there was still something missing in my life: motorcycles.

The Spark of Curiosity
It all began in high school. Many of my friends rode motorcycles to school, and every time I saw them riding off, it looked like pure freedom on two wheels. I told myself, “I want to try that someday.”
At first, my friends were hesitant, they were afraid I’d get hurt. But being the supportive bunch they are, they eventually helped me learn. I thought it would be easy since I could already ride a bicycle… but wow, was I wrong. Motorcycles were heavier, more powerful, and honestly a bit intimidating.
Still, I didn’t give up. After countless practice sessions (and hours of YouTube tutorials), I finally got the hang of it. And when I did, I was hooked. Riding felt like nothing else in the world. Naturally, I wanted to take the next step: getting my motorcycle license.
But then came the big “NO!” from my mom. She was worried it was too dangerous, and as much as I wanted to argue, I respected her wishes. My dream had to be put on hold — at least for a while.

The Green Light (Almost)
After finishing school, I reached the legal age to get a driving license. My focus shifted to getting my car license, and honestly, that alone was exciting enough. But when my parents found out it would be more affordable to take both the car and motorcycle licenses together, they surprisingly agreed.
I was stunned. My mom, the same person who once told me to stay far, far away from motorcycles, was now giving me permission to get a motorcycle license. Of course, I wasn’t going to question it. I went for both, and passed!
The plan was for my parents to buy me a bike so I could commute to university. But then COVID-19 hit, and priorities shifted, especially with both of my sisters’ weddings happening soon. I completely understood, but deep down, it hurt to be told (again) to stay away from motorcycles. So, there I was, a proud holder of a motorcycle license, without a motorcycle to ride.

Keeping the Dream Alive
Even though I couldn’t own a bike, I still practiced whenever I could, borrowing my friends’ motorcycles to keep my skills sharp. Over the years, I’ve ridden so many bikes that I’ve lost count. Some days it was a scooter, other days a sport bike, and each one reminded me of why I loved riding in the first place.
Despite my parents’ hesitation, I promised myself that one day I’d own a motorcycle of my own. And today, as I write this, I’m doing my internship here at iMotorbike. Being surrounded by motorcycles every day, reviewing them, writing about them, and learning from passionate riders, has reignited that spark I felt years ago.
Working here has not only given me valuable industry experience but also deepened my appreciation for motorcycles as machines, as culture, and as freedom. It’s a reminder that one day, I’ll be able to stand next to a motorcycle that’s truly mine. Until then, I’ll keep learning, keep writing, and most importantly, keep dreaming.
