The penultimate chapter of the 2025 MotoGP Asia and Oceania tour unfolds this weekend at the iconic PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit. The paddock braces for scorching temperatures, unpredictable rain, and high-stakes racing drama.

While the absence of Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) and Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) continues to shape the grid, and Maverick Viñales (Red Bull KTM Tech3) also remains sidelined. There’s no shortage of storylines as the premier class returns to one of MotoGP’s most technically demanding venues.

Marc Marquez ruled out for the rest of 2025

The reigning World Champion’s long recovery takes centre stage once again. Ducati confirms that Marc Marquez will sit out the remaining rounds and the post-season Valencia Test. The eight-time World Champion is now fully focused on his comeback for 2026. His absence leaves Ducati’s title hopes resting squarely on the shoulders of Francesco Bagnaia. His late-season form will be crucial as he aims to end the year on a high

Alex Marquez chasing for silver

With the gold virtually decided, Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) enters Sepang eyeing the runner-up spot in the 2025 standings. A consistent season and a string of podium finishes have put him firmly in contention. However, Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) looms as a major threat after rediscovering his form with a string of strong results.

Meanwhile, Bagnaia will be looking to make his mark after an up-and-down season. Sepang offers the perfect layout to unleash Ducati’s raw power on the straights.

Sepang Clash: Ten years on

This weekend also marks a decade since the unforgettable 2015 “Sepang Clash” between Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez, a defining chapter in MotoGP history.

The weekend ahead

As the sun sets on Media Day, anticipation builds for Friday’s free practice sessions. This round, tyre strategy and endurance will be critical. Sepang’s combination of long straights, fast corners, and punishing humidity promises a weekend where experience, setup precision, and sheer determination will separate contenders from pretenders.

MotoGP’s long-haul adventure may be nearing its end, but Malaysia always delivers. Expect heat, heart, and horsepower when the lights go out on Sunday.
