The Petronas MIE Honda Racing Team and British rider Tarran Mackenzie have officially announced their decision to part ways, bringing an end to their partnership that began in 2023.

The Scotsman first joined the team in the FIM Supersport World Championship and quickly made headlines by securing a memorable victory in Race 2 at Most, the team’s first-ever race win, after only three previous points-scoring finishes that season.

Mackenzie’s performance earned him a promotion to the prestigious MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship in 2024, where he proudly represented Petronasin their iconic sky-blue colours through the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Despite the split, both parties highlighted the mutual respect and gratitude they continue to share.

Reflecting on the decision, Mackenzie expressed appreciation for the opportunities given: “Firstly, I want to thank Midori, Sandro and the entire Petronas MIE Racing Honda Team. Although it’s been difficult at times, there have been many positives, including the Supersport win at Most – the team’s first ever race win – and Assen this year, where I finished in the top ten and scored points in every race. I’m very grateful to Midori for giving me the chance to be part of this paddock. I always gave my all, but perhaps a fresh perspective will benefit both the team and my own growth as a rider. It’s sad to part ways, but we have great memories together, and I wish them all the best for the rest of the season.”

Team Principal Midori Moriwaki echoed Mackenzie’s sentiments with deep respect for the rider’s contribution: “Tarran will always have a special place in my heart and in the story of our team. We’ve faced challenges together and we’ve shared great moments too, not least that amazing win at Most. He is a great rider and a true professional. It’s never easy to say goodbye, but we do so with total respect and affection, and we sincerely wish him all the very best for the next chapter of his journey.”

As Mackenzie prepares for his next move in professional motorcycle racing, the Petronas MIE Honda Racing Team will continue to push forward with the remainder of the 2025 WorldSBK season with sole rider Zaqhwan Zaidi.
