After years of teasing and development delays, the quirky Pocket Rocket electric motorcycle from German manufacturer Sol Motors is finally available for pre-order, and it’s every bit as unconventional as promised.

Looking like a giant AA battery bolted onto a bicycle frame, the Pocket Rocket blends futuristic design with urban practicality. The bike’s defining feature is its removable, tubular battery, which doubles as the core structure of the frame. Riders can charge the battery at home or in the office, and even opt for additional battery packs priced at around €1,695 (approx. MYR 9,400) to enable quick swaps.

Two Versions, One Radical Design

The Pocket Rocket comes in two variants, each tailored to different license categories (particularly in Europe):

  • Standard Model:
    • Peak Power: 6.5kW
    • Top Speed: 45 km/h (approx. 28 mph)
    • Suitable for basic moped/scooter licenses
  • S Model:
    • Peak Power: 8.5kW
    • Top Speed: 85 km/h (approx. 53 mph)
    • Requires a more advanced motorcycle license

Both models weigh just 87kg and deliver an estimated range of 67 to 108 kilometres, depending on riding conditions and configuration.

A Scooter That Turns Heads And Sparks Opinions

While the Pocket Rocket’s minimalist, pipe-like aesthetic will certainly draw attention, it may not appeal to everyone. Ergonomically, the design offers limited adjustability, which may pose challenges for taller or shorter riders. But for the style-conscious commuter looking for something different, it’s a bold statement.

Pricing begins at €5,999 (around MYR 31,000), with costs climbing towards €8,000 (approx. MYR 41,500) depending on customisation choices such as frame, fender, and logo colours.

Sol Motors is promising worldwide delivery within 6 to 8 weeks, and the Pocket Rocket can now be configured and pre-ordered via their official website.

The Verdict on Pocket Rocket

In an EV market increasingly filled with lookalike designs, the Pocket Rocket breaks the mould — literally. It’s compact, cheeky, and undeniably original. While it may not become the next global two-wheeled icon, it’s bound to make urban commuting just a bit more fun.
