MV Agusta has officially ended its corporate partnership with KTM, marking a significant moment in the storied Italian brand’s history. The company announced in early July 2025 that it has completed the transaction to return full ownership to Art of Mobility, a firm entirely controlled by the Sardarov family, long-time investors in the marque.

This move brings to a close a period of shared operations and strategic collaboration between MV Agusta and KTM, two manufacturers with distinct visions and market positions. While KTM’s involvement brought certain operational and distribution advantages, the companies mutually agreed earlier this year to part ways. The arrangement had seen KTM acquire a 25.1% stake in MV Agusta in late 2022, primarily to support restructuring and global distribution.

Although ownership has now been consolidated under Art of Mobility, MV Agusta has clarified that some joint operational functions with KTM will continue until the end of the current financial year. These transitional arrangements are standard in such corporate separations and are expected to wind down smoothly.

Leadership and Strategic Direction

Alongside the announcement of its regained independence, MV Agusta also introduced its refreshed executive team.

  • Luca Martin, formerly the company’s COO and Deputy CEO, has taken on the role of Chief Executive Officer.
  • Filippo Bassoli serves as Chief Brand and Marketing Officer and continues as a board member.
  • Timur and Ratmir Sardarov, key figures in Art of Mobility, now act as non-executive directors.
  • Hubert Trunkenpolz, a former KTM executive, remains Chairman of the Board during the transition.

The reshuffling of leadership indicates MV Agusta’s intent to stabilise its internal governance while maintaining brand continuity. The company is expected to strengthen its product development and branding strategies under this renewed structure.

Anticipating the Next Move

MV Agusta has already signaled that a new model will be unveiled shortly before EICMA 2025, the global motorcycle trade show held annually in Milan. While details remain undisclosed, the announcement hints at the company’s desire to reaffirm its presence in the premium motorcycle segment, a space it has long occupied with distinctive Italian styling and high-performance engineering.

Historical Resilience and Market Outlook

MV Agusta’s return to full independence marks another chapter in a long and often turbulent history. The brand has previously navigated complex ownership changes, including past associations with Harley-Davidson and KTM. Despite these challenges, the company has maintained its reputation for producing exotic and performance-focused motorcycles with strong design heritage.

With the departure from KTM now formalised, MV Agusta has the opportunity to redefine its strategic path. Whether it chooses to focus on electric mobility, expand its global reach, or reassert its dominance in the sportbike and naked categories, the coming months will be critical.

The upcoming product reveal before EICMA may provide the first insight into how MV Agusta plans to evolve in a competitive and rapidly shifting motorcycle market.

Conclusion

MV Agusta’s successful transition back to full ownership under Art of Mobility sets the stage for a potentially transformative period. As the company closes one chapter and begins another, the industry will be watching closely to see how the legendary Italian manufacturer reinvents itself for the future.
