As the 2025 Superbike World Championship rolls into Donington Park for Round 7, the Honda HRC factory team arrives with renewed confidence and both riders in fighting form. Iker Lecuona and Xavi Vierge, currently eighth and ninth in the standings respectively, are ready to continue their upward trajectory after a promising showing at Misano.
The Misano round saw Lecuona finish sixth and Vierge bravely battle to ninth in Race 2, despite the latter still recovering from foot surgery. With three additional weeks of recovery, Vierge is now nearing full fitness and looking forward to facing the technical and historic British circuit.
Xavi Vierge (#97)
“I definitely feel much better now than I did at Misano. Donington is a very special but demanding track. We’ve made a clear plan with the team to improve rear grip, which is key here. I’m physically stronger now and eager to put that plan to the test.”
His teammate Lecuona is also buoyed by a positive run of form and extra riding time at Suzuka ahead of the upcoming 8 Hours endurance event. Despite acknowledging Donington isn’t among his favourite tracks, he remains optimistic.
Iker Lecuona (#7)
“The feeling with the bike has been great lately, and the work we’re doing in the garage is paying off. Donington hasn’t been easy for us historically, but we’re going in with an open mind and a solid mindset. Cooler weather will also help, and I’m looking forward to getting back on track.”
While Donington has historically challenged Honda, the riders’ improved health and the team’s clear technical focus set the stage for a potential breakthrough. With both Lecuona and Vierge dialled in and determined, fans can expect a strong showing from the red bikes as the WorldSBK season hits its mid-point in the UK.
