The Honda HRC WorldSBK team demonstrated encouraging pace at the Cremona Circuit during Sunday’s races, with Xavi Vierge securing solid points finishes while Iker Lecuona delivered a spectacular comeback in Race 2. The factory duo showed flashes of competitiveness that suggest continued progress for the Japanese manufacturer in the 2025 season.

Vierge began his Sunday with a consistent fifth-place finish in the Superpole Race, maintaining his grid position throughout the 10-lap sprint. The Spaniard carried this momentum into Race 2, initially running as high as fourth before ultimately finishing seventh. “We made adjustments in the right direction all weekend,” Vierge noted. “While tyre wear prevented a stronger finish, we’ve shown we can fight with the front group.”

Lecuona’s day proved more dramatic. After crashing out of the Superpole Race while battling for position, the 24-year-old produced one of the rides of the day in Race 2. Starting 13th after his morning setback, Lecuona carved through the field with impressive late-race pace, briefly reaching fifth before settling for sixth. “My pace surprised even me,” admitted Lecuona. “To recover from that start and battle for the top five shows our potential.”

The results move Vierge up to eighth in the championship standings with 62 points, while Lecuona sits 13th with 44 points. Most importantly for Honda, both riders demonstrated they could maintain competitive lap times throughout the full race distance – a crucial development for the team’s progress.

The Honda HRC team now prepares for Round 5 at Autodrom Most (16-18 May), a circuit where both riders have shown strong form in previous seasons. With warmer European summer rounds approaching, the Japanese factory will look to build on their Cremona momentum as they continue developing the CBR1000RR-R’s race package.
