Marco Bezzecchi clinched a sensational first victory of the 2025 MotoGP season at the British Grand Prix, held at the historic Silverstone Circuit on Sunday, May 25. Riding for Aprilia Factory Racing, Bezzecchi capitalised on Fabio Quartararo’s mid-race retirement to take a dominant win and deliver the Italian marque’s 299th victory in World Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing history.
The Italian crossed the finish line in 38 minutes 16.037 seconds, finishing 4.066 seconds ahead of Johann Zarco, who secured second place aboard the LCR Honda. Ducati Lenovo’s Marc Marquez completed the podium in third. Rounding out the top five were Franco Morbidelli of VR46 Ducati and Gresini Ducati’s Alex Marquez.
“It’s an incredible feeling – difficult to describe,” Bezzecchi said after the race. “Last season was complicated, so I had decided to undertake this new adventure and Aprilia has always believed in me. I couldn’t dream of a better first win with Aprilia. The team is working extremely well, as is the staff in Noale, and I am extremely happy and grateful to all of them. We must never stop working. It won’t be easy, but we have never given up and we have never stopped believing.”

The race was anything but straightforward. In a dramatic opening lap, both Marc and Alex Marquez crashed out, but a red flag was soon brought out before the third lap due to oil on the track following a collision between Franco Morbidelli and Aleix Espargaro. According to MotoGP regulations, since the first three laps had not been completed, the race was restarted from the beginning. The revised race was shortened to 19 laps, and all riders, including the previously fallen Marquez brothers, were allowed to restart.
Once racing resumed, Quartararo surged into the lead and looked set to control the race until technical issues struck seven laps from the end, forcing the Frenchman to retire. Bezzecchi, who had been running closely behind, inherited the lead and never looked back, carefully managing his pace to claim his first-ever victory with Aprilia.
Bezzecchi’s previous best result this season was a fourth-place finish in the sprint race on Saturday. This long-awaited main race win marks a high point in his season and adds to Aprilia’s growing presence in the premier class.
