World Champion’s Future with Aprilia Uncertain After Injury-Plagued Start and Internal Tensions.

The promising partnership between reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin and Aprilia Racing appears to be unravelling, as mounting tensions, injuries, and unmet expectations push both parties toward a premature and dramatic split. 

Just months ago, optimism was high. Following his championship-winning 2024 season, Martin signed a multi-year deal with Aprilia, making his debut test on the RS-GP shortly after the season finale in Barcelona. Hailed as the centrepiece of Aprilia’s new era, under Technical Director Fabiano Sterlacchini and alongside Marco Bezzecchi, Martin’s arrival was supposed to mark a turning point.

In his January 2025 unveiling, Martin was enthusiastic, stating, “I’m really looking forward to this new challenge. I’m in the right place to achieve great things.” But the fairytale quickly turned into a nightmare, as soon as the 2025 Season Marred by Setbacks. Preseason testing in Sepang and the season opener were both derailed by injuries. 

When Martin finally lined up at the Qatar Grand Prix, his Aprilia debut ended in disaster after a small error caused a crash with serious consequences. He’s remained sidelined ever since, and reliable sources indicate he’s unlikely to return before at least another month, ruling him out of upcoming races at Silverstone and Aragon.

But the physical injuries are just one part of the story. According to Speedweek insiders, Martin’s faith in Aprilia’s project has collapsed. The Spaniard is reportedly initiating steps to exit the contract early, proposing a compromise to complete six more races before making a final decision. However, Aprilia is pushing back, refusing to acknowledge any missteps and standing firm on the binding contract.

Despite Martin’s outward professionalism, the breakdown in trust is clear. No official statements have been released by Aprilia Racing, but the silence speaks volumes. Behind the scenes, legal teams are already preparing for what could become a high-profile contractual battle. 

Fueling the speculation is the potential involvement of Honda, a manufacturer with vast resources and a desire to return to the top. Sources suggest that the Honda MotoGP team could offer Martin a lucrative lifeline, starting in 2026, giving the “Martinator” a fresh start and a chance to rebuild.

Should the split materialise, the Noale factory not only loses a world champion but risks sliding back down the MotoGP order just as it was gaining ground.

What was once a story of rebirth and momentum now risks becoming one of MotoGP’s biggest disappointments. As it stands, the likelihood of seeing the number 1 plate on an Aprilia anytime soon is growing slimmer by the day.
