Honda Montesa prepares for a landmark moment this weekend as the Trial2 World Championship heads to Japan for Round 3 of the 2025 season. The event, held at Mobility Resort Motegi from May 16–18, marks not only a return to competition after a four-week break, but also the world championship debut of the Montesa RTL Electric on home soil—a symbolic occasion for the Japanese manufacturer.
Rider Miquel Gelabert, who currently sits third in the overall standings, will be aiming to build on the momentum he gained at the last round in Portugal. There, the Spanish talent scored a victory and a runner-up finish over the two race days in Viana do Castelo, showcasing the growing competitiveness of the RTL Electric in only its debut season.
For Honda Montesa, the Motegi round is more than just another race weekend. It’s a homecoming. It is a chance to demonstrate the potential of their new electric platform at the very place it was conceived. The technical challenge and emotional significance of racing at Motegi, just steps from Honda’s R&D heartland, brings both pressure and pride for the team.
“These weeks off have gone very well,” Gelabert shared ahead of the event. “We’ve trained very hard and I feel really good on the bike. The goal is to repeat or improve on Portugal’s results. It won’t be easy because the class is so competitive, but we’re ready to give it everything.”
Team Manager Carles Barneda echoed the sentiment: “These first two rounds helped us learn a lot about the bike and the field. From now on, efficiency and consistency will be key. Racing at Honda’s home is a privilege—we want to use this moment to show what the RTL Electric is capable of.”
The Motegi round kicks off on Friday with scrutineering and practice, followed by two full days of racing starting at 9:00 AM local time on both Saturday and Sunday.
With the title fight heating up and the team motivated by both recent results and home support, Honda Montesa is approaching this round with determination and purpose. The RTL Electric has already proven it can win—now the team will be looking to do it again, this time on the most meaningful stage of all.
