For the first time in its storied history, Ducati is going off-road. Seriously. The production of the Desmo450 MX, Ducati’s debut motocross machine, has officially begun at the legendary Borgo Panigale factory, marking a seismic shift for the Italian brand better known for conquering tarmac than tearing up dirt.

This is not just another MX bike. It’s Ducati’s declaration of intent: to take its race-focused DNA, fine-tuned on MotoGP and Superbike grids, and inject it into the world of motocross. And it’s starting strong right off the back of Jeremy Seewer’s second MXGP podium in France and a national title already in the bag thanks to Alessandro Lupino.

At the production line celebration stood not just executives, but motocross legends like Tony Cairoli, whose input shaped the very soul of the bike. This isn’t a vanity project. It’s Ducati doing what Ducati does best: engineering a machine that brings race-proven excellence to enthusiasts of all levels.

Born to Push Limits, Even Yours

The Desmo450 MX isn’t just another 450cc contender. Its 449.6cc single-cylinder Desmodromic engine sets it apart from anything else in the off-road segment. That unique valve system, normally reserved for Ducati’s track machines, delivers torque-rich, responsive power across the rev range, enabling both low-end grunt out of corners and high-end thrust through the straights.

Couple that with a purpose-built lightweight aluminium frame (with minimal welds for max rigidity and weight savings), and you get a motocross bike that’s agile, confidence-inspiring, and deceptively easy to push to the limit. Ducati says it’s for amateurs and professionals alike—and this time, they’re not exaggerating.

The First MX Bike with Real Traction Control

But perhaps the most jaw-dropping feature is the inclusion of advanced electronics, unheard of in the world of dirt bikes. The Desmo450 MX is the world’s first motocross bike equipped with a true Traction Control system. It reads rear wheel slip in real time and knows when not to intervene, preserving the aggressive ride feel that MX riders demand while giving them a safety net that doesn’t interfere with performance.

This is a revolution in motocross tech, born from Ducati’s decades of dominance on racetracks around the world.

Factory-Ready Customisation & Style

Ducati isn’t stopping at performance. With a full Ducati Performance catalogue in tow, riders can spec their Desmo450 MX with top-shelf racing components: machined wheel hubs, triple clamps, titanium slip-on exhausts, Brembo Racing brakes, and more. Even the kit, developed with Drudi Performance and Alpinestars, is pure factory-level flair, from gloves to boots to helmets.

Availability & Global Rollout

The Desmo450 MX lands at select European dealerships in June 2025, with North American distribution to follow in July. A full global rollout is planned thereafter. Ducati’s official YouTube channel features the launch video, and full technical specs are now available on Ducati Media House.

Next Chapter for Ducati

Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali sums it up best. “We searched for what makes Ducati truly unique: the closeness between racing and production. The Desmo450 MX brings that spirit to motocross, and it’s only the beginning.”

Indeed, this isn’t just a new bike. It’s the first step into an entirely new world for Ducati. One that’s dusty, raw, and fiercely competitive. And if the Desmo450 MX is any indication, Ducati didn’t just show up to the dirt party. They’re here to win.
