Toprak Takes Portimao by Storm with Triple Victory

Toprak Takes Portimao by Storm with Triple Victory

Following a triumphant hattrick in Portimao, the Turkish rider sets his sights on a second WorldSBK title with BMW and also Eyes on MotoGP Future.

Toprak Razgatlioglu made a thunderous statement at the European opener of the 2025 World Superbike Championship in Portimao, storming to a pole position and sweeping all three races of the weekend. After trailing Ducati’s Nicolo Bulega by 20 points following Phillip Island, the Turkish star bounced back in dominant fashion to close the gap and silence any doubters.

Riding without BMW’s “Super Concession” chassis which was responsible for 13 straight wins last season, Toprak proved his raw talent once again by holding off fierce Ducati opposition on a circuit where Bulega was expected to shine. The hat-trick now lifts Razgatlioglu to 60 career WorldSBK wins, surpassing legendary Carl Fogarty (59) and further solidifying his place among the greats.

Despite his blistering form on the BMW, all eyes are now turning to Razgatlioglu’s future. Rumours of a potential MotoGP switch in 2026 have intensified, with his manager, Kenan Sofuoglu, confirming that talks are real.

Toprak Razgatlioglu

“Right now, we’re more focused on winning the second title with BMW,” Sofuoglu told SPEEDWEEK.com. “But Toprak has two MotoGP options. At this moment, it’s 50/50 between MotoGP and staying in WorldSBK.”

Crucially, both Razgatlioglu and Sofuoglu have been vocal about their desire to join only a full factory MotoGP team, dismissing any interest in satellite rides, no matter the support. With factory seats locked in across most manufacturers, only one possibility seems realistic: Honda HRC Castrol, where Luca Marini’s future remains uncertain beyond this season.

As speculation swirls, one thing is clear, Toprak Razgatlioglu has nothing left to prove in WorldSBK. Whether his next chapter continues on the world’s fastest production bikes or takes him to MotoGP’s elite, the Turkish ace is ready to take on the pinnacle of motorcycle racing.
