What started as a simple idea — a ride from Ewan McGregor’s home in Scotland to Charley Boorman’s house in England — has turned into something much bigger. This time, the longtime motorhead best friends are taking the scenic route, covering 17 countries, 10,000 miles, and 9 weeks of travel in their brand-new YouTube series, Long Way Home.
Unlike their previous adventure, Long Way Up, which saw them riding prototype electric motorcycles across South America, Long Way Home is a nostalgic return to old-school motoring. McGregor and Boorman tackle their journey on refurbished vintage motorcycles, adding a fresh layer of excitement — and mechanical unpredictability — to their travels.
The idea for this new series was actually born during their 2019 trip on Long Way Up. “On a rather tricky, sandy bit of Long Way Up, Charley and I started to daydream about another trip to keep our minds off the scary road at hand,” McGregor recalls in the teaser video. While Long Way Up focuses on the future of motorcycling with Harley-Davidson’s electric LiveWire prototypes, Long Way Home is all about honoring the past.

“We’ve never properly explored the countries on our own doorstep,” McGregor says, explaining why this European adventure feels so special. Boorman adds that they are “doing the journey on vintage, temperamental, 50-year-old bikes,” promising plenty of adventure — and inevitable mechanical drama — along the way.
Throughout the 10 episodes, the duo journeys across stunning landscapes, including the North Sea coastline, Scandinavia, the Arctic Circle, the Baltics, and the soaring peaks of the Alps, before finally crossing the English Channel back to the UK. Each episode not only captures the raw beauty of the road but also dives deep into each country’s culture, cuisine, and unique experiences.
Of course, no road trip on vintage bikes would be complete without a few unexpected breakdowns, and Long Way Home doesn’t shy away from the bumps along the journey. Expect candid moments, laughter, challenges, and a deep celebration of the spirit of adventure that defines McGregor and Boorman’s friendship.
Long Way Home premieres on Apple TV+ starting May 9, joining their previous acclaimed series Long Way Round, Long Way Down, and Long Way Up, all available to stream on the same platform. Whether you’re a motorcycle fan, a travel junkie, or just love a great story of friendship on the open road, this new series promises to be a ride worth taking.
