Bimota KB998 Rimini Launches as Track-Only Bike in Europe

Bimota KB998 Rimini Launches as Track-Only Bike in Europe

The new Bimota KB998 Rimini doesn’t meet Euro 5+ standards and can’t be used on European roads, launching as a track-only bike despite its WSBK-ready design.

The much-anticipated Bimota KB998 Rimini is set to go on sale across Europe starting April 9, but it comes with a significant caveat — it can’t be used on public roads. The bike isn’t road-legal in the EU because its engine fails to meet Euro 5+ emissions standards.

Track-Only, For Now

While the KB998 Rimini cannot legally hit European streets, it is fully eligible for the Superbike World Championship (WSBK). WSBK rules require Bimota to produce 125 road-legal units in 2025, even if they don’t meet local road laws. So, the KB998 Rimini can be sold for track use or in regions with looser emissions rules but remains off-road in Europe.

Future Approval Uncertain

Bimota aims for Euro 5+ compliance, but street approval in the EU isn’t guaranteed. Adapting a track bike to meet strict road standards is complex, and post-launch homologation is often not possible.

A High-End Racing Machine

The bike comes at a price tag of €43,900 (RM223,8900), just under the €44,000 cost cap for base models in WSBK. The KB998 Rimini blends Italian craftsmanship with Japanese engineering. The engine is sourced from the Kawasaki ZX-10RR, while Bimota handles the chassis design and assembly. Each unit is hand-built by a single technician, a nod to the brand’s commitment to quality and exclusivity.

What do we think of the Bimota KB998 Rimini

The KB998 Rimini is a stunning piece of machinery meant for the racetrack, not the road — at least for now. With its blend of cutting-edge performance and artisan construction, it’s a collector’s dream. Though, everyday riders will have to wait and see whether road approval ever becomes a reality.
