The opening round of the 2025 Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand, proved challenging for Malaysian riders Sharf Muhriz and Adam Danial. While Race 1 ended in disappointment due to a collision, Race 2 saw Adam bounce back with a points finish, while Sharf’s efforts were thwarted by a technical issue.

Race 1: Collision and Setback
Race 1 took a dramatic turn for the worse when Sharf Muhriz and Adam Danial were involved in a collision with Indonesian riders Alvaro Mahendra and Davino Britani at Turn 9. The incident resulted in Adam’s motorcycle catching fire, prompting immediate medical attention. He was rushed to Buriram Hospital for further examination, where it was confirmed that he had not sustained any serious injuries. However, he was kept under observation as a precaution.
For Sharf, the collision meant an early end to his race, denying him the opportunity to score valuable championship points. Both riders had started the race from the back of the grid, with Adam in P16 and Sharf in P17, hoping to make up ground after a tough qualifying session.

Race 2: Redemption and Resilience
Adam Danial was cleared to compete in Race 2 after his hospital evaluation. Starting from P16, he delivered a determined performance, overtaking several riders to finish in 12th place. His efforts earned him three championship points, providing a much-needed confidence boost ahead of Round 2.
Sharf Muhriz, starting from P18, made a strong start by overtaking three riders early in the race. However, his progress was hampered when he was handed a Long Lap Penalty for Irresponsible Riding. After serving the penalty, Sharf’s machine encountered a technical issue, forcing him to retire from the race.

Looking Ahead to Round 2
Round 1 served as a crucial benchmark for assessing the riders’ performance and identifying areas for improvement. The next round of the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup will take place at the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar on 12-13 April 2025.
Zulfahmi Khairuddin, Team Manager of SIC Racing, reflected on the weekend’s challenges: “The results of Round 1 at Chang International Circuit did not meet expectations for both riders, with several incidents occurring throughout the race. Performance in Free Practice and Qualifying was also below expectations, but there is still ample room for improvement. Earlier, the Official Test showed promising results from both riders. However, on race day, they were unable to showcase their true performance.
“Moving forward, my team and I will work harder to enhance preparations and improve training to ensure both riders are better equipped to compete strongly in Round 2,” he added.
Despite the setbacks, Adam’s resilience in Race 2 and Sharf’s determination to fight back highlight their potential. With renewed focus and preparation, both riders aim to deliver stronger performances in Qatar this upcoming April, and climb the championship standings.
