There’s something about motorcycles that makes them more than just machines. They’re stories waiting to be written, journeys waiting to be taken, and personalities waiting to be defined. Each ride is a chapter, and each choice shapes the experience. Maybe that’s why bikes have such a strong pull on those who love them—because they’re not just modes of transportation; they’re expressions of who we are.

Take a look at the latest lineup from Harley-Davidson, and that idea becomes even more obvious. The 2025 Softail range is a reminder that a motorcycle isn’t just something you buy. It is something you build into your own. Whether it’s a stripped-down cruiser, a power-hungry bruiser, or a long-haul touring machine, there’s something for almost every kind of rider.

Harley-Davidson Softail Fat Boy

This year’s Softail models come in six flavours: the Breakout, Fat Boy, Street Bob, Heritage Classic, Low Rider S, and Low Rider ST.

Each one carries Harley’s Milwaukee-Eight 117ci V-twin, but with different setups that affect power and torque. The Heritage Classic and Street Bob lean into tradition with the 117 Classic. It offers 98 horsepower and 120 pound-feet of torque. The Breakout and Fat Boy turn up the heat slightly with the 117 Custom, pushing 104 horsepower and 126 pound-feet. But if speed and power are priorities, the Low Rider S and Low Rider ST pack the most punch with the 117 High Output—114 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque.

Numbers are one thing, but how these bikes feel on the road is what really matters. And if there’s one thing Harley knows how to do, it’s making every ride feel distinct. Take the Street Bob, for example. With its mini-ape handlebars and a stripped-down, no-nonsense look, it’s the kind of bike that feels playful and aggressive at the same time. There’s a rebellious streak to it, as it belongs in an old biker movie but with enough modern refinement to make it easy to live with.

Then there’s the Breakout and Fat Boy, which live on the other end of the spectrum. With their wider frames and beefy tyres, they have a more planted, heavy feel—built for straight-line cruising rather than darting through twisty roads. These bikes don’t want to lean into corners quite as easily, but that’s not their purpose. They’re the kind of machines meant to stretch the road ahead of you, giving you a reason to just keep going.

The Heritage Classic falls somewhere in between, blending old-school aesthetics with modern tech.

But when it comes to corner carving and spirited riding, the real stars of the lineup are the Low Rider S and Low Rider ST. These two have a more aggressive stance, tighter handling, and the most power of the bunch. The Low Rider S is raw and sporty, while the ST adds some touring capability with fairing and saddlebags. If there’s a bike in this lineup that’s equally suited for city blasts and long-distance rides, it’s the Low Rider ST.

But the beauty of the Softail range isn’t just in how these bikes ride—it’s in how much they can be customized. Harley-Davidson has an absurdly huge catalogue of accessories, with everything from performance upgrades to aesthetic tweaks. Whether it’s changing handlebars, swapping out exhausts, or adding luggage options, there’s almost no limit to what these bikes can become. They’re like a blank canvas, ready for each rider to put their own mark on them.

Of course, all this choice comes at a cost. The starting price for the 2025 Softail lineup begins at $17,199 (approx. RM81,500) for the Street Bob and climbs up to $24,199 (approx. RM114,700) for the Low Rider ST. But with Harley, you’re not just buying a bike—you’re buying a platform, a starting point for something that can evolve into exactly what you want it to be.

That’s what makes the Softail lineup so interesting. It’s not just about picking a bike—it’s about picking a direction. You decide what you want out of your ride, and from there, you shape the experience. The road ahead is full of possibilities, and with the right bike, you get to decide how the story unfolds.
