Google is reportedly expanding its popular Android Auto platform beyond cars to include motorcycles. This development aims to offer a smarter, more connected experience for motorcyclists, with enhanced app icons and user interface (UI) tailored to two-wheelers.

Broader Vehicle Support in the Works

The latest changes in Android Auto were spotted in version 13.5.150204, as reported by Assemble Debug via Android Authority. Notably, the app settings have replaced the term “Car” with “Vehicle,” suggesting that Google plans to extend Android Auto’s functionality beyond traditional cars. This subtle but significant change hints at imminent support for motorcycles and potentially other types of vehicles.

New Motorcycle-Specific Icons

In addition to altering the terminology, Android Auto now includes new icons specifically designed for motorcycles. One of these icons represents TVS, a well-known Indian motorcycle manufacturer, indicating that Google is working on partnerships with specific brands. This targeted approach could mean better integration and a more seamless experience for users of these motorcycles.

Higher-Resolution Display Support

Another notable update in the app’s code is the potential for Android Auto to support higher-resolution displays. Currently, the platform is limited to a maximum resolution of 1920x1080p. However, future updates could increase this to 2560x1440p or even 3840x2160p, allowing for a sharper and clearer interface. This enhancement will benefit users with larger or higher-resolution screens, providing an improved visual experience.

Android Automotive OS for Motorcycles

Beyond Android Auto, Google is also bringing its Android Automotive OS to motorcycles. Unlike Android Auto, which runs on a smartphone and projects onto a vehicle’s display, Android Automotive OS is a standalone operating system built directly into the vehicle. Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM has already announced plans to incorporate Android Automotive OS into its high-end models. This move highlights Google’s commitment to expanding its ecosystem into the motorcycle segment.

What’s Next?

While these updates are not yet available in the current version of Android Auto, we can expect them to be out in future releases. Motorcyclists can look forward to a smarter, more integrated ride experience, with features tailored specifically to their needs.

Keep an eye out for these exciting updates in the coming months as Google continues to innovate and expand its Android Auto platform to new horizons.
