Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Yamaha is gearing up for a transformative 2025 MotoGP season, set to begin with an exclusive unveiling event at the W Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Friday, January 31, 2025. This marks a significant milestone for the brand as it reintroduces a satellite team to its lineup after a two-season absence.
In collaboration with Prima Prama, the unveiling will showcase both the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP team and the new Prima Pramac Yamaha satellite team. For the first time, Pramac riders Miguel Oliveira and Jack Miller will debut on Yamaha’s YZR-M1, signalling a fresh chapter for the Japanese manufacturer.
Yamaha has also introduced a new Sporting Director, Paolo Pavesio, who will replace Lin Jarvis in steering the team. According to a statement from Yamaha, the event will feature not only the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP livery but also the Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP and Moto2 projects. The Moto2 team, led by Paolo Campinoti, will debut riders Izan Guevara and Tony Arbolino.
Yamaha’s factory team will continue with its star-studded lineup of Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins, while the Prima Pramac Yamaha team brings a fresh pairing of Oliveira and Miller. Both Pramac riders will be directly contracted to Yamaha, marking a significant shift after 20 years of Pramac’s collaboration with Ducati.
The unveiling coincides with the shakedown test for the 2025 MotoGP season at the nearby Sepang International Circuit, just an hour from Kuala Lumpur. From January 31 to February 2, test riders, rookies, and teams with concessions (Honda and Yamaha) will have the opportunity to assess next season’s bikes.
The first official test of the year will take place from February 5 to February 7, also at Sepang. Following the tests, the MotoGP season will formally launch with a presentation event in Bangkok on February 9. Teams and riders will then head to Buriram for the final test at the Chang International Circuit on February 12 and 13, ahead of the season opener at the Thailand Grand Prix on March 2.
Yamaha’s renewed collaboration with Prima Pramac signals a bold new direction, as the manufacturer looks to reclaim its competitive edge in MotoGP. Fans can look forward to seeing the new bikes, teams, and riders in action as the 2025 season kicks off in style.
