The 2024 Honda Transalp XL750, priced at $9,999, marks Honda’s much-anticipated return to the middleweight adventure bike market. Designed to cater to both newcomers and seasoned riders, the Transalp offers a well-rounded package that combines Honda’s legendary reliability with modern engineering. It strikes a harmonious balance between on-road comfort and light off-road capabilities, making it a versatile choice for various riding scenarios.

Engine and Performance

At the heart of the Transalp is a 755cc parallel-twin engine, a proven performer borrowed from Honda’s European Hornet platform. Tuned specifically for adventure riding, the engine produces 91 horsepower and 55 lb.-ft. of torque. The 270-degree crankshaft provides a character similar to a V-twin, enhancing low-end torque and delivering a lively riding experience. The engine’s high-revving nature ensures dynamic top-end performance while maintaining fuel efficiency, making it suitable for both twisty roads and gravel trails.

Chassis and Suspension

The Transalp’s lightweight steel frame ensures agility on technical terrain and stability at highway speeds. Showa suspension components provide comfort over rugged surfaces, although they fall short of the heavy-duty capabilities seen in rivals like the Yamaha Ténéré 700. The 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels add to its off-road potential, while the overall design leans slightly more towards road-oriented performance.

Advanced Electronics

Honda has equipped the Transalp with a comprehensive suite of electronics to enhance the riding experience. Five selectable riding modes—Standard, Sport, Rain, Gravel, and User—allow riders to tailor performance to varying conditions. The Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) integrates traction and wheelie control for added safety and confidence. A quickshifter is available as an option, enabling seamless gear changes, but the absence of cruise control and the inability to disable front ABS for soft sand riding highlight its road-focused bias. The 5-inch TFT display, while colourful and Bluetooth-enabled, can feel cluttered, with small fonts complicating on-the-fly adjustments.

Comfort and Practicality

Comfort is a priority with the Transalp, featuring an upright seating position, an adjustable windscreen, and a generously padded saddle. These elements ensure that long-distance rides are comfortable for both rider and passenger. The 4.5-gallon fuel tank provides a respectable range, and the bike’s 459-pound weight strikes an ideal balance between off-road manoeuvrability and highway stability. Additional features like LED lighting and optional accessories—including luggage and crash protection—make the Transalp highly customizable.

Styling and Value

The Transalp’s sleek bodywork combines modern aesthetics with functional design. Aerodynamic features improve performance at higher speeds, while the LED lighting system adds a contemporary touch. At a competitive starting price of $9,999, the Transalp offers exceptional value, blending performance, technology, and comfort in an affordable package.

The 2024 Honda Transalp XL750 shines as an all-around performer in the middleweight adventure-touring segment. While it may lack some off-road-specific features found in more specialized models, its versatility, accessibility, and thoughtful design make it an excellent choice for a wide range of riders. Whether navigating urban streets, winding through mountain passes, or tackling light off-road trails, the Transalp is a reliable and stylish companion ready for any journey.
