Bosch has taken a giant leap forward in motorcycle safety with its latest ARAS (Advanced Rider Assistance System). The recently unveiled KTM 1390 Super Adventure S EVO has become the first motorcycle equipped with Bosch’s cutting-edge radar technology, which enables the bike to come to a complete stop when following traffic. This groundbreaking system will soon be a key feature in more high-end motorcycles starting in 2025.

How the Bosch Radar Tech Works

The system integrates radars at both the front and rear of the motorcycle. These radars monitor the surrounding environment and apply additional brake pressure when necessary to avoid collisions, ensuring the bike comes to a safe stop behind vehicles during emergencies. A notable feature is that once traffic clears, the motorcycle can automatically resume movement, enhancing rider convenience.

The self-stopping radar technology works seamlessly with motorcycles equipped with automatic gearboxes, a feature already prevalent among premium two-wheeler manufacturers.

Expanding to Middle-Weight Bikes and Scooters

Bosch isn’t stopping at high-end motorcycles. The company has announced plans to make this technology available for middle-weight motorcycles and premium scooters in the near future, broadening its reach and accessibility.

Additional Costs and Hardware Upgrades

While the technology is a game-changer, it does come with a cost. Apart from the radar system itself, motorcycle manufacturers will need to implement significant upgrades in braking hardware. Enhanced components are essential to ensure that the braking system can handle the additional demands and work in perfect harmony with Bosch’s radar tech.

Bosch’s commitment to expanding this revolutionary safety system promises to transform rider safety, offering peace of mind on both premium and more accessible bikes in the years to come.
