Exciting news for local motorcycle enthusiasts as the highly anticipated 2024 Modenas Kawasaki ZX-6R was unveiled during the recent Petronas Malaysia MotoGP event at Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

Introduced by Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional (Modenas), a subsidiary of DRB-Hicom Berhad, this new model is set to offer a balance between entry-level sportbikes and high-end literbikes at a more accessible price point.

Drawing inspiration from the ZX-10R, the 2024 ZX-6R comes with refreshed styling, including updated front and side cowls, a redesigned windscreen, modern LED lights, and sleek blacked-out engine covers.

The ZX-6R comes with an inline four-cylinder, 636cc, liquid-cooled DOHC engine with 16 valves, producing 127 hp at 13,000 rpm, boosted by ram air to the same output. Peak torque reaches 69 Nm at 10,800 rpm. A new Euro 5-compliant design incorporates updated header pipes and cam profiles, improving low-end performance while meeting emissions regulations.

The model features a 6-speed manual gearbox equipped with Assist & Slipper Clutch technology and a Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS) that supports upshifts only. Riding aids on the ZX-6R include four ride modes namely road, rain, sport and one customizable, three traction control levels, and selectable power delivery settings.

Suspension components include fully adjustable Showa SFF-BP 41 mm upside-down forks at the front and an adjustable rear monoshock. The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels fitted with 120/70 front and 180/55 rear tyres.

Braking is handled by dual 310 mm front discs with radial-mounted, monobloc 4-piston callipers and a 220 mm rear disc with a single-piston calliper, supported by a dual-channel Kawasaki Intelligent Anti-Lock Brake System (KIBS).

The ZX-6R features a 4.3-inch full-colour TFT-LCD display that connects to smartphones, enhancing rider convenience. It weighs 197 kg (wet), has a fuel capacity of 17 litres, and a seat height of 795 mm.

Priced at RM59,900 (excluding road tax, insurance, and registration), the ZX-6R will be available in Metallic Flat Spark Black/Ebony and Lime Green/Ebony. Pre-booking opens at all Kawasaki All-Star showrooms on December 1, 2024, with a deposit of RM500. The pre-booking period ends on January 31, 2025.

An exclusive handover event will be held at SIC in February 2025 for the first 50 owners, providing them with a unique experience that showcases the journey from assembly to riding on the track.
