Malaysia’s young talents, Qabil Irfan and Farish Hafiy, delivered outstanding performances at recent international motorsport events in Spain and Thailand. Competing in the Spanish Superbike Championship and the Asia Talent Cup respectively, both riders demonstrated skill, determination, and resilience, placing Malaysia’s motorsport potential firmly in the spotlight.
Qabil Irfan Shines in Spain at the Spanish Superbike Championship
In Round 6 of the Spanish Superbike Championship Moto4, held at Circuito de Navarra in Spain, Qabil Irfan proved his mettle against some of the best in the field. His race week started strong as he recorded the fastest time in qualifying, securing pole position for Race 1. The race, however, began on a challenging wet track. Despite the conditions, Qabil took the lead confidently. His luck turned on lap 10, as he encountered a fall that set him back, but he persevered and completed the race in 17th place.
Race 2 brought Qabil an opportunity for redemption on a partly dry track. He overtook several riders from the 10th position, quickly moving up to 4th place. In a nail-biting final lap, he attempted a pass for 2nd place on the last corner but was narrowly overtaken on the straight, ultimately securing 3rd place on the podium. This impressive finish marked a career milestone, highlighting his potential as a strong competitor on the international stage.
Farish Hafiy’s Gritty Performance in Thailand at the Asia Talent Cup
Meanwhile, in Buriram, Thailand, Farish Hafiy delivered a solid performance in Round 5 of the Asia Talent Cup at the Chang International Circuit. Farish showcased his skill during free practice, securing P1 in FP1 without slipstream assistance and finishing FP2 in P4 after making suspension adjustments. His teammate, Asyraff Zaquan, made his track debut with P18 in FP1 and P19 in FP2, while Farhan Naqib saw slight improvements in his times, remaining in P21 for both sessions.
In the qualifying session, Hafiy secured P6, placing him well within reach of the lead pack. Race 1 saw him battling in the front group, where he nearly claimed P1 in the final corner but ultimately finished in P6, earning 10 championship points. Race 2 presented a greater challenge with wet track conditions, leading to a crash midway. Hafiy managed to recover and complete the race in P18.
As the Asia Talent Cup heads into its final round in Sepang, Hafiy holds P7 in the overall standings with 81 points. Japan’s Zen Mitani has already claimed the championship with 209 points, but Hafiy’s determination and consistency reflect his potential to impact the final race.
Asyraff ended Race 1 in P17 and improved his standing to P12 in Race 2. Farhan Naqib concluded Race 1 in P18 but unfortunately could not start Race 2 due to a fall during the warm-up lap.
A Bright Future for Malaysian Motorsport
Both Qabil Irfan and Farish Hafiy have demonstrated remarkable resilience, skill, and passion on the international racing circuit. Qabil’s podium finish in Spain and Hafiy’s strong performance in Thailand showcase the bright future of Malaysian motorsport. As they continue to push their limits, these young racers carry the hopes of a nation, inspiring fans and setting new benchmarks for Malaysian representation in the sport.
