After a thrilling weekend in Australia, the Ducati Lenovo Team has arrived in Buriram, Thailand. The Chang International Circuit will host the eighteenth round of the 2024 MotoGP World Championship this Sunday. Since its debut in 2018, the Thai track has become a key part of the MotoGP calendar.
Ducati Lenovo’s Championship Push
Ducati leads the team standings and could secure the world title in Buriram this weekend. Francesco Bagnaia, the reigning World Champion, is focused on closing the gap to Jorge Martín. Bagnaia currently sits second in the standings, 20 points behind Martín. After finishing third in Australia, Bagnaia is confident of a strong performance in Thailand.
“Phillip Island was tough, but we knew it wouldn’t be easy,” Bagnaia said. “Chang International Circuit suits our strengths. The unpredictable weather will be a challenge, so we must work fast and well. Our goal is always to give our best and achieve the maximum.”
Bagnaia’s previous performances in Thailand back up his confidence. He finished third in 2022 under wet conditions and second last year after a close duel.
Bastianini’s Quest for Third Place
Enea Bastianini, currently fourth in the standings, also arrives in Thailand with momentum. He secured third place in the Phillip Island Sprint race and finished fifth in Sunday’s main race. Bastianini is eager to reclaim third place in the championship. Marc Márquez currently holds a 14-point advantage over him.
“I’m happy to race in Thailand again,” Bastianini said. “The conditions will be different from Australia, and weather is a big unknown. Qualifying will be crucial to avoid making up positions during the race. Last year, I struggled here, but this season we’ve been fast everywhere. I’m confident we’ll perform well and fight for the top spots.”
Weather and Track Conditions
The Chang International Circuit often presents unpredictable weather conditions. Rain has played a significant role in past races here. Bagnaia and Bastianini will need to adapt quickly to any changing conditions. Practice sessions and qualifying will be vital to securing strong grid positions.
With Ducati leading the team standings and both riders determined to fight, the Thai GP promises intense action. This race could shape the outcome of the 2024 MotoGP season as the title race heats up.
