In a remarkable display of skill and determination, young rider Qabil Irfan Azlan secured a runner-up finish in the fifth round of the Spanish Superbike Championship (ESBK) 2024.

His impressive performance added another highlight to Malaysia’s motorsport achievements, following in the footsteps of compatriot Hakim Danish.

The 21-year-old Irfan demonstrated exceptional prowess, starting the race by steadily positioning himself within the top five. As the race progressed, he made a decisive move on the final lap, utilizing the power of his Ohvale machine to surge from fifth place to a well-deserved second position.

Reflecting on his race, Irfan said, “In the second race, I started from the 10th grid position and tried to chase the front group, who were quite far ahead. By the 5th lap, I managed to catch up with the leading group and even took the lead, but I was overtaken in the final corner, causing me to finish in 2nd place.

“During the first race, I had a good start and led the front group for several laps until another rider collided with me, causing me to go off the track and crash. I tried to recover but finished in 16th place. I dedicate this second-place podium to Malaysia in celebration of the 67th Independence Day. Thank you, Malaysia.”

The timing of Irfan’s achievement, coinciding with Malaysia’s Hari Merdeka celebrations, seemed to infuse the young rider with extra motivation.

His performance not only earned him a podium finish but also brought national pride as Malaysia celebrates its 67th Independence Day.
