Marc Marquez Claims First MotoGP Victory in Three Years at Aragon GP, as Martin Extends Lead After Alex Marquez and Pecco Bagnaia Clash.

Marc Marquez delivered a masterclass at the Aragon MotoGP, thrilling his home crowd with a dominant victory that ended his three-year winless streak.

The six-time MotoGP champion, who last tasted victory in 2021, secured his comeback win on the Ducati satellite Gresini bike, capping off a dream weekend after winning the sprint race on Saturday.

Marquez, 31, led the race from start to finish, showcasing his exceptional pace and crossing the finish line nearly five seconds ahead of Jorge Martin.

Martin’s second-place finish extended his championship lead to 23 points, while Francesco Bagnaia, who was just five points behind entering the weekend, crashed out following contact with Alex Marquez.

Bagnaia had been making impressive progress through the field after a difficult start, where he struggled with rear tyre spin from the dirty side of the grid. He steadily climbed from seventh to fourth, capitalizing on errors from Miguel Oliveira, Franco Morbidelli, and Pedro Acosta.

However, his charge was abruptly halted when he attempted to overtake Marc Marquez at turn 13. The two made contact, resulting in both riders crashing out of the race.

Bagnaia was taken to the medical centre, but no updates on his condition have been released. Marquez, meanwhile, was reportedly stable and fit after the incident.

The crash promoted Pedro Acosta to third place, although he finished nearly 15 seconds behind the race winner. Brad Binder secured fourth place, while Enea Bastianini recovered from a 14th-place start to finish fifth.

Franco Morbidelli took sixth, followed by Fabio Di Giannantonio, Marco Bezzecchi, Alex Rins, and Jack Miller, who rounded out the top 10.

Marc Marquez talks about Pecco Bagnaia-Alex Marquez crash verdict

In the post-race press conference, Marquez commented on the crash between Bagnaia and Alex Marquez, describing the incident as “unlucky” and suggesting that Bagnaia was “optimistic” in his attempt to overtake.

He noted that Alex Marquez went wide, leaving Bagnaia in a risky position as he tried to use the clean line.

The crash marked another flashpoint between Bagnaia and a Gresini Ducati, following previous incidents at the Portuguese and Spanish Grands Prix earlier in the season.

With Bagnaia now trailing Martin by 23 points in the championship standings, the tension between him and Marc Marquez is expected to heighten as the season progresses.

MotoGP now moves to Misano for the next race weekend, where the battle for the championship will continue.
