Race 1 of Round 5 of the 2024 Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) in the SuperSport 600cc category saw Md Helmi Azman from the Boon Siew Honda Racing Team claim his first victory of the season at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. Helmi Azman was the only national rider to reach the podium, taking the top spot in this race.
Starting from the second grid, Helmi initially fell behind but quickly surged ahead by the end of the first lap. Despite fierce competition from Thai rider Apiwath Wongthananon of the Yamaha Tekhne Racing Asian team, Helmi maintained his lead and refused to look back, crossing the finish line first with a time of 21’54.779s.
Apiwath secured second place with a time of 21’55.511s, while fellow Thai rider Kiattisak Singhapong completed the podium for third place with a time of 22’04.425s. Azroy and Kiattisak battled for third throughout the race, but the positions remained steady.
After his victory, Helmi said, “I knew I could perform even better in this race. Having completed the MSBK ride, I was confident in my pace and knew I could be fast. I kept an eye on Apiwath behind me and focused on increasing the gap. I’m proud to have won, and this victory is for everyone who has supported me.”
Helmi’s victory marks a strong result for the Kajang-born rider, giving Malaysia a proud moment in the SuperSport 600cc category.
