At the recent Yamaha GenBlu Carnival in Johor Bahru, Yamaha surprised enthusiasts by unveiling the 2024 Yamaha PG-1 for the Malaysian market.

This new model, positioned in the Cubcross segment, is a rugged kapchai motorcycle designed to rival the popular Aveta Ranger Max.

The Yamaha PG-1 is equipped with a 113.7cc single-cylinder SOHC air-cooled engine featuring an EFI system, delivering 8.8hp at 7,000rpm and 9.5Nm of torque at 5,500rpm.

The bike’s chassis includes telescopic front forks and twin shock absorbers at the rear, offering adjustable preload. Braking is handled by hydraulic front disc brakes and mechanical rear drum brakes, paired with 16-inch spoked rims with tubular tires. Notably, the PG-1 does not include ABS.

Customization is made easier with split seats, and the seat height is set at 795mm. The PG-1 also comes with a centre stand, an electric starter, and an analogue instrument panel displaying essential riding information.

The bike has a 5.1-litre fuel tank and weighs 107kg. To maintain its retro aesthetic, the PG-1 is equipped with halogen lights instead of LEDs.

This off-road-styled kapchai is available in two colour options and comes with two accessory packages: the GIVI set and Yamaha Genuine accessories.

In the Malaysian market, the PG-1 competes with the Aveta Ranger Max Explorer, which is priced at RM6,988. The PG-1’s pricing is recommended retail and excludes road tax, registration, and insurance. The bike also includes a two-year warranty or 20,000km mileage, whichever comes first.
