The electric two-wheeler market is witnessing an unprecedented surge in innovation, with a multitude of unconventional and cutting-edge designs making their mark. Electric vehicles (EVs) are gaining traction, especially in urban settings, owing to their quiet operation, maneuverability, and ample torque – characteristics that make them ideal for navigating congested city streets. French electric motorbike startup, Motowatt, is taking urban mobility to the next level with its groundbreaking electric motorcycle, the W1X, which is designed to provide a safe, efficient, and eco-friendly alternative for daily commuting.

Motowatt’s Vision

Motowatt was founded by French brothers Henri and Olivier Rabatel in 2020, with a vision to revolutionize urban commuting by creating a practical, carbon-neutral electric motorcycle. Four years later, their dream comes to life with the introduction of the W1X, a unique two-wheeler that challenges conventional design norms in the electric motorcycle space.

Innovative Design Features

Motowatt has embraced innovation with the W1X, incorporating features rarely seen in electric motorcycles. The bike boasts a rugged steel frame and an unconventional cantilever-type front suspension system. Notably, it breaks the mold by featuring not one but two electric motors, making it an all-wheel-drive e-moto. This design choice enhances traction and stability across various road conditions, a crucial factor for urban commuting.

Sustainable Manufacturing Practices

Motowatt places a strong emphasis on sustainability in its manufacturing processes. The W1X underwent four years of rigorous research and development to ensure it is a carbon-neutral machine. The company employs efficient manufacturing practices, utilizing common components and streamlined processes to enhance production efficiency. Motowatt’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its membership in the France System 2030 initiative, a government-backed investment campaign supporting forward-thinking companies.

Tech Specs and Customization

The W1X is designed to be a practical and user-friendly city commuter, suitable for A1 and B license holders. It promises an impressive range of 130 kilometers (approximately 81 miles) on a single charge, thanks to its dual-motor setup. Motowatt has also focused on customization, allowing customers to tailor the W1X to their specific needs. Practical accessories, such as a tank box, rear luggage case, and adjustable shock absorbers, can be added. The braking system is upgradeable with components from Beringer, and there’s even an option to fit larger wheels and tires.

Pricing and Availability

The Motowatt W1X comes with a price tag starting at 15,000 euros (approximately $16,152 USD), positioning it as a premium choice in the electric motorcycle market. Although the cost is substantial, Motowatt offers enthusiasts an opportunity to be pioneers in adopting cutting-edge technology. Deliveries are slated to begin in January 2025, marking a significant milestone in the company’s journey.

Motowatt’s W1X stands as a testament to the innovation and progress within the electric two-wheeler market. With a commitment to sustainability, unique design features, and customization options, the W1X aims to redefine urban commuting. As electric motorcycles continue to evolve, Motowatt’s vision and dedication to pushing boundaries contribute to the growing landscape of eco-friendly and high-performance electric vehicles.
