Despite his aversion, Marquez acknowledges the reality of the situation: the rules permit teams to pursue aerodynamic advancements, leaving little room for his personal preferences.
His sentiments come amidst his anticipation for the upcoming pre-season test at Sepang, where he is slated to ride for his new team, Gresini Ducati. Marquez, known for his adaptability, acknowledges the necessity to adjust to the evolving landscape of MotoGP regulations, even if it means accommodating changes he doesn’t favor.
“I’m looking forward to trying the bike in a circuit where I struggled a lot in the past,” Marquez expressed, indicating his eagerness to tackle challenges head-on. While he acknowledges his affinity for circuits like Valencia, he’s particularly intrigued by the opportunity to test his skills at tracks where he has faced difficulties previously, such as Sepang and Qatar.
Marquez’s transition to Ducati has come with its own set of challenges, notably adapting to a new machine and learning from his teammates. He emphasizes the importance of understanding his fellow riders’ approaches to riding the Ducati, signaling his willingness to absorb knowledge from his peers to enhance his own performance.
Despite the upcoming Sepang test being his first official outing aboard Ducati’s GP23 bike this year, Marquez has already dipped his toes in the waters of MotoGP action. A recent private test at Portimao, organized by Ducati, allowed him to familiarize himself with the Gresini-inspired Panigale V4 R, offering valuable track time alongside his Ducati teammates.
Reflecting on his training regimen, Marquez notes a departure from his usual routine. Traditionally focusing on motocross and MotoGP bikes, recent years saw him sidelined from motocross due to injury, necessitating a shift to street bikes like the CBR650. However, the recent test in Portimao provided him with an opportunity to reacquaint himself with the sensation of speed, crucial for refining his skills on the MotoGP machine.
As Marquez prepares for the challenges ahead, his willingness to adapt and learn from his experiences underscores his determination to excel in the competitive world of MotoGP, even amidst changing regulations and new team dynamics.
