The incident occurred early in the session, resulting in a highside that sent Fernandez tumbling and his RS-GP catching fire.
Despite making a brief return to the track later in the day, Fernandez was unable to gather significant mileage. Concerns over his well-being prompted a visit to the hospital for thorough checks. Fortunately, it was determined that Fernandez had not sustained any serious injuries. However, bruising in the pelvic area and hip prompted the decision to sideline him for the remainder of the test, spanning Wednesday and Thursday.
Expressing regret over the incident, Fernandez conveyed his apologies to Aprilia and the Trackhouse Racing MotoGP team. He attributed the crash to unexpected track conditions, expressing disappointment at the missed opportunity to further acquaint himself with the new bike and its dynamics.
Fernandez emphasized the importance of prioritizing his recovery, recognizing the inherent risks of riding in his current condition. He acknowledged the necessity of resting and recuperating to ensure his readiness for future tests and the upcoming season.
Looking ahead, Trackhouse remains optimistic about Fernandez’s prospects for the subsequent testing sessions in Qatar later this month. The team aims for Fernandez to be fully fit and ready to resume testing, hoping to capitalize on the valuable insights and experience gained from the Sepang outing.
