Aprilia, the renowned Italian motorcycle manufacturer, is causing a stir in the motorcycling community with the emergence of a mysterious prototype believed to be derived from the Aprilia RS 457. The spy shots, initially published by the German outlet Motorrad, have sparked speculation about the potential addition of a new member to the Aprilia lineup, possibly a variant of the Tuono series. However, as the details unfold, enthusiasts are now wondering if this upcoming model is a Tuono 457 or an entirely new creation.

Traditionally, Aprilia follows a predictable pattern in developing its sports bikes and their naked counterparts. The brand introduces a sports bike, labelling it with the ‘RS-something’ designation. It subsequently crafts a naked version using the same technical foundation, known as the ‘Tuono-something.’

The relationship between the RS and Tuono models is usually straightforward, maintaining consistency in design elements.

Yet, the prototype captured in the spy shots appears to deviate from this established norm. Moto.it, a prominent source in the motorcycle community, points out several distinctive features that set this mysterious bike apart from the typical RS-Tuono relationship. Notably, the exposed parts of the frame showcase a tubular design. This is in contrast to the twin-spar frame found in the RS 457. The central monoshock is replaced by an offset unit. The swingarm takes on a different form, and the single, round headlamp is a departure from Aprilia’s customary visual style.

The question arises: is this enigmatic motorcycle to bear the Aprilia badge, or could it possibly find a home under another brand within the Piaggio Group? While the engine, exhaust, wheels, and brakes align with the RS 457, the dissimilarity to other Tuono models raises intriguing possibilities. One plausible contender is Moto Guzzi, another marque under the Piaggio Group umbrella. The round headlamp introduces styling nuances reminiscent of Moto Guzzi’s modern-classic lineup, particularly the V7. The prototype’s setup is less retro than the V7. It incorporates an inverted fork and a digital display. The prospect of Moto Guzzi entering the middleweight twin-cylinder segment is not entirely implausible.

As the motorcycle community eagerly awaits further developments, only time will unveil the true identity of this prototype. The mystery bike boasts a distinct blend of Aprilia’s performance-oriented characteristics. It also carries potential influences from other Piaggio Group brands. This unique combination positions the bike to make a significant impact when officially revealed. Until then, enthusiasts can only speculate and anticipate the unveiling of this intriguing addition to the world of two-wheeled marvels.
