CryptoDATA vs. Dorna: Drama Unfolds in MotoGP

The conflict between RNF Racing’s ex-co-owner, CryptoDATA, and MotoGP’s governing body, Dorna, has intensified with online accusations.

The MotoGP Committee proposed a Hollywood-script-like deal, with CryptoDATA’s Ovidiu Toma claiming Dorna wanted them to sell their team for a ridiculously low price, sparking a mix of comedy and serious exchanges.

In a bold statement, Toma accused Dorna of attempting to oust CryptoDATA from the championship, suggesting creative contract maneuvers. The statement, at times childishly defiant, expressed disbelief at Dorna’s actions and questioned the unwritten rules guiding the championship.

Despite having a contract with IRTA and Dorna until 2026, CryptoDATA now finds itself without MotoGP slots. This leaves their racing company, valued only through these contracts, seemingly worthless. The Romanian team, disappointed, intends to take legal action, seeking compensation for the damage to their business and reputation.

The situation is complex. The Pierer Group, suspected to benefit from Dorna’s moves, also didn’t secure MotoGP slots. The Suzuki vacancies are reserved for a new manufacturer, not a customer team.

Facing challenges, CryptoDATA’s pledge to go to court may hit obstacles. Proving substantial damage is a tough task, and the journey to a court judgment is uncertain, possibly taking two or three years.

The MotoGP Selection Committee, in charge of allocating MotoGP places, remains resolute. Teams like Pramac and Tech3, part of MotoGP since 2002, showcase the endurance of those following motorsport rules.

Despite the accusations, CryptoDATA’s reality is precarious. The 1.5 million euro naming rights deal for the Austrian GP, secured with Dorna, hangs in the balance. Adding complexity, the Austrian GP contract involves “EAI Technologies,” while RNF Racing’s shares belong to “CDT SPORTS AND MEDIA SRL,” leaving CryptoDATA entangled in legal intricacies.

As the MotoGP drama unfolds, the clash between ethics, legality, and the need for speed continues, leaving CryptoDATA’s fate uncertain in the turbulent world of motorcycle racing.
