Unveiling the 2024 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Upgrades

The long-anticipated 2024 Honda Africa Twin has finally been unveiled, putting an end to the swirling rumors and speculations that have surrounded this adventure bike for some time.

This latest iteration of Honda’s highest-selling adventure motorcycle comes in two variants: the Africa Twin and the Africa Twin Adventure Sports, each with its own set of exciting upgrades.

Enhanced Powerplant

The Africa Twin boasts a revamped engine. It keeps the same 1,084cc twin-cylinder engine but with significant upgrades for better performance.

The airbox intake ducts are wider now, going from 29 mm to 35 mm. They’ve also bumped up the compression ratio from 10.1:1 to 10.3:1. Alongside these changes, there are new ECU settings and valve timing tweaks.

All of this results in a peak torque of 82 pound-feet, a notable increase from the previous 77.4. Importantly, this extra torque kicks in at 5,500 RPM, 750 RPM earlier than the previous Africa Twin. The peak horsepower, however, remains a strong 101.

Transmission Choices

The 2024 Africa Twin still gives you two gearbox choices: a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). They’ve made the DCT smoother, especially when starting from a stop. Plus, it’s smarter now, thanks to better corner sensing, making sure gear changes are spot-on by teaming up with the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU).

Advanced Riding Technology

Speaking of the IMU, the 2024 Africa Twin introduces several advanced features, including:

• Six ride modes: Tour, Urban, Gravel, Off-road, and Two customizable modes.
• Three-level wheelie control.
• Seven-level traction control.
• Four power modes.
• Three-level engine braking.
• Switchable cornering ABS.

The bike’s instrument cluster remains a 6.5-inch TFT display, which now includes Bluetooth connectivity and supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Sturdy Chassis and Suspension

Beneath it all, the Africa Twin keeps its tough steel semi-double cradle frame. The suspension is taken care of by adjustable Showa 45 mm upside-down forks and a Showa monoshock, along with a CRF450R-style swingarm.

The 21/18-inch spoke wheels stay the same, as does the braking system with 310 mm front discs and a 256 mm rear unit.

Tubeless Tires and Suspension Options

New hardware includes tubeless Metzeler Karoo tires, which make fixing punctures easier. Riders can also choose the Showa Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment (EERA) kit, offering five suspension modes: Mid, Hard, Soft, Off-road, and User. User mode lets riders adjust the suspension through the TFT display, while the other modes suit different riding situations and are linked to the mentioned ride modes.

Adventure Sports Upgrade

In the Adventure Sports version, Honda swaps the 21-inch front wheel for a 19-inch one geared for the road.

This means a bigger 110-section tire, up from the previous 90-section. Importantly, the Adventure Sports model now includes the Showa EERA kit, giving improved suspension options right from the get-go.

Aesthetic Enhancements

The 2024 Africa Twin gets a fresh look with a new five-way adjustable windscreen, sportier rally-style side panels, and a redesigned top fairing. These changes aim to make riders more comfortable.

Plus, there are new colors for both the Africa Twin and the Adventure Sports version, adding extra style. The Adventure Sports model now even comes with heated grips and an ACC socket for added rider comfort.

Coming Soon to America

The new Africa Twin isn’t on Honda Powersports’ site yet. It’s expected in the United States early next year.
