Kawasaki’s RS model line is indeed quite popular as the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer maintains the classic DNA that was once popular in the 70s to 80s era.

As a result, models like the Kawasaki Z900RS inspired by the Z1 model have remained popular since their introduction.

The popularity of the Z900RS also led to Kawasaki producing the Z650RS in an effort to penetrate a wider market, especially in attracting young riders.

There were speculations that Kawasaki would introduce the Z400RS. However, there has been no further news regarding the model so far.

The latest reports in Japan claim that Kawasaki will introduce a motorcycle inspired by the GPZ900R. According to a Young-Machine, the model takes on the name GPZ900RS Ninja.

The model is likely to adopt the same liquid-cooled 948cc 4-inline DOHC platform as the Z900RS. The GPZ900RS Ninja offers a similar design to the iconic GPZ900R produced by Kawasaki from 1984 to 2003.

The four-cylinder 908c engine found in the GPZ900R produces 115hp and 85Nm. On the other hand, this modern engine in the Z900RS offers 111hp at 8,500rpm and 98Nm. However, it is unknown whether Kawasaki will re-tune the engine for use on the GPZ900RS Ninja.

A preview of the ‘render’ image shared by Young-Machine above also shows several components from the Z900RS retained including the rims, suspension and frame.

For the record, the Kawasaki GPZ900R is also known as the earliest Ninja model and was also popularized by the movie Top Gun which was shown in 1986.

Although this latest revelation is quite interesting, no official statement has been made by Kawasaki so far. However, considering Young-Machine’s claim to have rarely gone astray over the years, we expect the GPZ900RS Ninja project to be in full swing at the moment.

Three years ago, a motorcycle accessory company in Japan, DOREMI Collection produced a GPZ900R kit for the Z900RS model.
